Tahiti Flight Information
Air Tahiti Nui is the national airline of The Islands of Tahiti.
All flights from Australia fly to Tahiti via Auckland.
The flight time from Sydney to Papeete is about 8hrs 30mins, not including the on-ground transit time required in Auckland (which varies). Air Tahiti Nui and Air New Zealand offer airfares from all major capital cities in Australia to the capital city of Tahiti, Papeete (in codeshare with Qantas and Emirates on some routes).
All international flights arrive at Faa’a International Airport on the island of Tahiti which is located approximately 5 kilometres west of Papeete.
Due to crossing the International Dateline, most flights from Australia arrive the day before they depart e.g a Thursday morning departure from Australia will arrive on a Wednesday night in Tahiti. Due to the late arrival of the aircraft most Tahiti Holiday Packages will require one night in Papeete before travelling to another island the following morning. Similarly, due to early morning aircraft departures, most passengers returning to Australia will also require one night in Papeete prior to departure. Flight schedules play an important role in planning a trip to The Islands of Tahiti. Flights are not scheduled every day and do vary at different times of the year depending on your departure city in Australia. Generally an itinerary will need to be either 5, 7, 9, 12 or 14 nights. There are of course exceptions to this general rule!
For travel between the islands, Air Tahiti is the domestic airline which links all five archipelagos.
