Ua Huka
Description

Did You Know?

Ua Huka is located about 40km east of Nuku Hiva and is best known for the wild horses that roam her stark plateau landscape.
The horses were brought to Ua Huka from Chile in 1856 and today they thrive in the abundant open spaces of the island.

Along with hordes of wild goats the horses vastly outnumber the island’s residents! Ua Huka is home to an abundance of petroglyphs and other archaeological sites tucked away in her lush valleys.

The islands’ high mountain peaks allow stunning views out across the Pacific Ocean. Some of the best woodcarvers in the Marquesas reside in Ua Huku and you can buy bowls, tikis, spears and other impressive and intriguing artefacts.
