Tahuata
Description

Did You Know?

Tahuata is only accessible from Hiva Oa and is the smallest island in the Marquesas Archipelago.
Tahuata also is the site of the first French settlement in the Marquesas in 1842. The island is home to the famous bone carvers who majestically and meticulously carve on horse bone, cattle bone and even swordfish rostrums!

In the tiny village there is a huge church built by the Vatican, which is decorated with some of these beautiful Marquesan carvings.

Most of the visitors to this little island come from the Aranui cargo and passenger ship which makes a stop to deliver essential supplies to the villagers.
