Raiatea — The Sacred Island

About Raiatea

Considered a sister island to Taha’a, Raiatea is the second largest island in French Polynesia. The island is located to the northeast of Tahiti and flights to Raiatea take just 35 minutes from Papeete.


Full of legends, Raiatea was was the cultural, religious and royal heart of ancient Polynesia, as well as the birthplace of the gods. The legends create a mysterious and magical atmosphere in many places on the island. This “paradise on earth” definitely catches the eye and captures the sense of smell with the presence of the strange and unique “Tiare Apetahi” plant, a typical Tahitian flower.
