Tahiti is the largest of the 118 islands and
atolls that comprise French Polynesia and
it features the only international airport. The island is
crowned by a circle of majestic peaks, towering over the
ocean like a proud and royal queen. Full of legends,
stunning scenery, crystal-clear turquoise lagoons,
lush tropical landscape, black and white sand beaches,
spectacular coral reefs and waterfalls, Tahiti has always
been a unique dream destination.
Papeete, the invigorating capital city and
commercial hub of French Polynesia, hosts the government
offices, hospitals, banks, airlines and travel agencies,
fine restaurants, nightclubs, pearl shops, and
boutiques. The famous waterfront was recently renovated,
creating a lively boardwalk atmosphere from To’ata
Square, a new concert venue that boasts a daily crafts
fair, to Vai’ete Square, the place where gourmet
catering trucks (the “roulottes”) settle at night to
offer delicious, low cost meals. The colourful market is
just footsteps away from Vai’ete Square, offering endless
shopping from local food to hand-made crafts to
souvenirs.
Activities include golf at Tahiti's spectacular
American designed championship golf course, island
adventure tours, helicopter excursions, horseback
riding, tennis, snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing,
surfing, wind surfing, deep sea fishing, water skiing
and day trips to Marlon Brando's atoll, Tetiaroa,
to name just a few.
