Huahine
is a two island lagoon encircled by a protective coral necklace. Mythology provides two legends for the creation of the two islands, Huahine Nui (big Huahine) and Huahine-Iti (little Huahine): either the god Hiro cut the island in half with his canoe, or a spear thrown in a contest among gods pierced Moorea's Mt Mouaputa and then sailed 100 miles where it split Huahine in two!

Visible from Bora Bora, Huahine invites you to discover untamed landscapes and the genuine Polynesian culture. Located 175 km northwest of Tahiti, just 35 minutes away from Tahiti by plane, Huahine is one of Polynesia’s best-kept secrets.

Less explored than the other islands, Huahine is a peaceful place with lush rainforests. The island's soil is rich and fertile, therefore you’ll find vanilla plantations, copra, banana trees, watermelons and coconut palms. Discover the exceptional flora, lovely white sand beaches, and villages along the scenic mostly un-paved road.

Nature is considered as a part of the heritage, just as archaeological sites are. Known as the cradle of genuine Polynesian culture, Huahine shelters preserved marae (stone sacrificial temples). Artefacts can be found in Maeva, a former royal village, located on the shores of Fauna Nui Lake. Fare, the main village, slumbers under the shade of almond and acacia trees. It has a lovely public beach, a few shops, snack bars and restaurants and it comes alive for the frequent arrivals of the inter-island ferries from Tahiti.

Huahine’s activities and excursions go from 4x4 safari tours, to lagoon cruises, to cultural tours. Of course, you can also rest and lie down on secluded white sand beaches or snorkel to discover large sea life. If you are a bit of an adventurer, you can explore the wild forest or surf great waves like the famous “Fare Right”.

If you are looking for a charming island where you can find beauty, a genuine Polynesian way of life and seclusion, Huahine is definitively the island…
