Planning your holiday!

Good to know…

International Flights arrive into Papeete, on the Island of Tahiti. Due to crossing the International Dateline, most flights from Australia arrive the day before they depart. Air Tahiti Nui’s flight schedules usually allows a 5, 7, 9 or 14 day holiday as they do not fly every day.

On arrival – all passengers are met at the airport by a ground operator and it is here where you will be issued with vouchers for accommodation, activities, domestic flight tickets etc. Most passengers arriving into French Polynesia will require 1 night in Papeete before forwarding to another island the following morning.

For your consideration…

Choosing an Island- French Polynesia is around the same area in size as Europe and is made up of 5 groups of islands. Refer to our detailed map on page 3 for details.

The most popular destinations are the “Society” Islands, or sometimes referred to as the ‘Hi Islands’. It is home to the famous islands of “Tahiti, Moorea & Bora Bora”, which are world renowned for their volcanic peaks surrounded by glistening lagoons with white sandy beaches.

"Low Islands"

The Tuamotu is geographically very different, and is often referred to as the ‘Low Islands’. It is an archipelago comprising 78 low islands or coral atolls scattered over several hundred miles of the eastern Pacific. Life on these remote atolls is simple and quiet. Interior lagoons are a haven for black pearl farms, fish parks, snorkelling and scuba diving. We recommend these islands for those seeking a more remote island experience without comprising on resort style comforts!

Rangiroa

A visit to the Society Islands or the Tuamotu generally involves a stay of 1 night on arrival and 1 night on in Tahiti. It is recommended to book the same hotel chain throughout your visit as ‘Island Combo’ specials are always available.

The island of Tahiti offers a good selection of quality resorts, all with spectacular views of Moorea. For an affordable alternative or a quick ‘5 days escape’ we recommend staying on this island of Tahiti. You can also visit Moorea for the day - catch the hi-speed ferry from Papeete and in 30 minutes time you can be collecting your hire car to circumnavigate the island.

The length of stay in French Polynesia usually determines the number of islands visited.  Air Tahiti have an airpass which makes it easy and economical to visit more than one island during your visit.

We recommend to book transfers throughout.

For economical savings, and to ensure you do not miss out, we recommend pre bookings for the following:
       - Meal plans
       - Activities
       - Spa packages

Departures - A night is usually requires at the end in Papeete as the flights leave early morning.

We hope this summary helps you plan your holiday to French Polynesia. For any questions or advice, please call our reservations team who are all very well travelled in Tahiti and are here to help make your holiday one you will always remember…!
